Sickness and Health

Well, I'm finally feeling better. Which of course means that Tamara is feeling awful. At least we have a week until finals...

On an unrelated note, I'm currently getting a negative download speed in Firefox. That seems a little strange, doesn't it?

Physics 212 Review and Exam III

Yesterday I led the review session for the third Physics 212 hour exam (the exam was tonight). Normally, a professor associated with the course would do it, but apparently everyone was out of town. Basically, all I had to do was run through the third hour exam that was given last semester, and yet people seemed to be impressed that I had been asked to do it. Really I assume I was pretty much picked at random from among the TAs, although I guess only Tamara and I have actual public speaking experience.

Anyway, when I got to Lincoln Hall Theater, it had been overrun by an undergrad performance troop called the 'New XXXXXX Players'. They were setting up for a full dress rehersal, but hadn't actually bothered to reserve the theater. Freshmen.

After getting rid of the rebels, er...revels, I discovered that the wireless michrophone for the room was missing, and so I ended up doing two hours of projecting into a fairly full LHT with an already sore throat. On the upside, I hear that I got good reviews.

The exam tonight seemed fairly difficult, at least much more so than the one I worked with them at the review session. Several of my students seemed confident as they left, but the vast majority...didn't. We'll see if anyone actually comes to discussion this week--our last ones.

After the exam I found out that Tamara tripped and fell today, hurting her ankle. She was just getting off of the bus and tripped over her own feet! We made quite a pair going home, I couldn't talk and she couldn't walk.

EDIT 08/05/2005 - I removed the name of the troop after I noticed that this post is ranked very highly in a campus Google search for them.

More on the World Year of Physics

You knew this was coming. The American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) has some truly wonderful World Year of Physics merchandise available at their online store, here.

Don't you wish you had an Einstein action figure?

Wedding Photos

We finally got around to posting the professional pictures from the wedding and reception! Of course, we haven't posted all of them and we used scaled down resolution copies. If you want any specific pictures (that we've posted or that we havent), please let us know. We can email them to you or print them on my awesome new photo printer. We will try to send full resolution pictures to people that we think would like to have them, but that will take awhile.

In other news, Tamara just won the Vet School's student Collegiality award! The picture below is her accepting the award from the donor at an award ceremony yesterday. She was selected because of her efforts in brining the class together, and specifically for startng a peer tutoring program within her class. The award includes $500 towards her tuition and fees next year!

Home and Garden

We finally got a new dishwasher! His name is 'Miguel' and he's going to come by once every other day... Ok, maybe not.

The dishwasher that came with the house wouldn't drain at the end of a cycle so it was pretty much worthless. The new model we got is a Frigidaire from Lowes that's very nice. In fact, it's actually much nicer than the one we originally bought. The one we first picked out was the lowest end model but the one they delivered to us didn't work and it was apparently the last one they had in stock. Lowes finally offered us a substantial upgrade at a 10% discount.

We also went out yesterday to finally set up the trellis that my mom gave us. We're using it to cover up a cosmetic blemish on the front of the house. I forget what the name of the plant is that we're using to climb the trellis but I'll try to get it for when I post an after picture of the trellis fully covered.
